Busy Busy

Who knew being a mother of a kindergartener could be so busy? Sorry I have been so out of it this week but I just feel like the days are flying by. We have 2 playgroups, 2 school girls, 1 baby who requires a ton of doctor appointments, flu shots, dentist appointments, a baby blessing and family coming in town next week, a house to clean, meals to cook, a baby who wants to nurse ALL DAY, children to bathe, feed, entertain, love. Life is busy. We are living on adrenalin at this point, but we are loving it.

This is a picture of Jolie and her class at a farm for her very first field trip. That also included her first trip on a school bus. She got to watch a farmer milk a cow. She saw sheep, pigs, a bull, a rooster, and more. And the highlight was she got to hold a baby chick! So pretty much it was one of the best days of her life. Man school is rad.

Heaven

I am in heaven. I have never enjoyed my newborns like I am right now. Maybe it is that Reese is my calmest baby. Maybe it is that I am the calmest mother I have ever been. Maybe it is that I am an old hat at this mothering business. But I am truly enjoying every minute of this baby. His big huge hands, his slightly mustier smell than his sisters, his small smiles, his raising of only his left eyebrow, his baby coos, his attempts at standing (already! my girls were slow at this), his adoration for his daddy (Landon gets all the best smiles from him), his long fingers and toes, his sometimes squinty sometimes wide eyes, his little yelps, his determination to watch whoever is holding him, most of all cuddling him at the wee hours (even if I am exhausted beyond belief!)

Being a mom is THE BEST job. I am so lucky.

Lucy on Star Wars

Star Wars is Lucy's current obsession. She watches the movies constantly, and Landon even took her to see the new Clone Wars movie. Watch as she discusses her favorite Star Wars characters and plot points. There is also singing!

Preschool For Lucy

I am pretty sure I have never seen a cuter preschooler.She promised she wouldn't cry, and she didn't!

I just love this mama's girl. She was so big and brave! Now 2 days a week for 2 hours it is just me and Reese. One kid is a breeze.

Bathtime

Reese lost his cord on Friday so we gave him his first bath. He was very quiet so I guess he liked it. He also had his 2 week check-up that day. He gained over 1 pound in 9 days! He is now a healthy 9 pounds 15 ounces.

The bath was a family affair.

I had to take a picture of him in this onesie. It will be the one and only time he wears it, he is already ready for his 3-6 month clothes. Also, this is his favorite way to sleep. He wants to be flat on his back. None of my other babies liked this.

P.S. When the waitress at Ruby's this weekend (our fave family restaurant) told us what a sweet baby we had Jolie replied, "thanks, we just got him."

Kindergarten

Today was Jolie's first day.

Me: How was kindergarten?

Jolie: It was AWESOME!

Me: How was your teacher?

Jolie: She was so pretty and so so nice.

Me: Did you meet any nice kids?

Jolie: There was a beautiful little girl, I decided we are going to be friends.

Me: Did you tell her?

Jolie: Not yet, I have to ask her what her name is first.

Me: Good idea.

Prop 8

I am pretty conservative in most my views. My husband is not. We generally don't talk politics in our home but I do try to be open minded about most issues. In fact there are some issues I am on the fence about, for example, gun control.

So when first Prop 8 began to be discussed around here I thought to myself, big deal. Let the gay people get married. At least it shows to me they want to be monogamous. Is it really going to hurt me in any way? I couldn't imagine how.

But it turns out I was wrong. It is a big deal. At least it is to those of us with strong religious convictions. It will actually have a HUGE impact on my church. And on my children. And I am honestly quite worried about it not passing. Here is why.

1. What happens when our temples refuse to perform gay marriages in them?

2. What happens when our church adoption programs refuse to adopt children out to same sex couples?

3. What if I don't want my children learning about same sex families in their schools? What if I don't want the schools undermining my teachings as a mother?

4. Doesn't separation of church and state go both ways?

5. Where does it stop? Are we going to start marrying three-somes? Or what about polygamy? Aren't we going to have to legalize that again next?

I realize this is hard for those homosexual people out there. I honestly feel bad, and I wish there was some other way they could recognize their unions other than marriage. I would be behind that for sure. I don't consider myself a gay basher or a prude. I do recognize the legitimate feelings these people have for one another. I don't want to minimize their position. I am just worried about the consequences for my family.

And if you think just because you don't live in California you don't have to worry about it. You are wrong. We are the trend setters, in more than just fashion.

And even if you yourself aren't religious, consider the power given to these judges who have made this decision without our consent. Doesn't seem right to me.
