Who Are You And What Have You Done With My Wife?

Poor Landon. If you ask him one of the most challenging aspects of pregnancy is my precarious emotional state. And if I'm being honest it is starting to annoy me as well. I can cry at the drop of a hat.

Some examples:

A Baby Story on TLC has me in tears (why do I watch it you ask? because it's a good cry!)

A few weeks ago upon hearing of the raid on the FLDS compound where all of those children were taken into custody, I was a wreck and was so sure that nothing would do except for me to move to Texas and take some of those poor souls into my home and into my arms!

When Landon bravely admitted the other night that he didn't particularly like discussing the process of delivering a baby and that he would really like to change the subject, I was hurt and sad and ridiculously upset, at least until the next day when I had been rested and realized I was being insane. Why should he want to talk about it? It is a gross disgusting mess! Not to mention painful and scary.

This morning was classic. At the breakfast table the topic of college came up. Jolie asked how old you are when you go to college. After hearing the answer she got very quiet and in a very quivery voice said, "I'll miss you guys." The she started the water works. Then I started crying. Then Lucy stuck out her lower lip and let one single tear escape, and Landon had 3 terrifyingly upset women on his hands. He couldn't get out of the house fast enough. And I don't blame him.

Unfortunately the madness probably won't end until the baby is about 3 months old. No wonder Landon doesn't want to do this again. I am just glad he is getting a son so that come that day when all us girls get our periods all at the same time Landon will have someone to escape with. A monthly camp out will be just what the doctor ordered.

Landon, I love you. Thank you infinitely for your patience and understanding. You always seem to know just when I need a quiet hug to make me feel better. I promise somehow, someday I will make it up to you. Just hang in there for a little longer and I will be back to myself again. You are the single greatest blessing in my life. Love, Katie.

I Still Got It (I Guess)

So we are at the Natural History Museum. Checking out all the neat stuffed animals and dinosaur bones when we pass a large group of people. I gave them plenty of room to pass as we walked by and yet a large young man rubs right up against me, getting a nice feel of my right boob with his arm. This was clearly no accident. Landon looks over at me as a look of total shock and surprise appears on my face. I then explained what happened.

Landon: So do you feel dirty or violated?

Me: Nope. Hey a big fat pregnant lady will take a compliment any way it comes.

And lets be honest, it doesn't get any more sincere than that.

Butterfly Pavilion

You wouldn't imagine how hard it was to get a decent picture of these little guys. (And I am not talking about the butterflies.) The girls were so excited about all of these colorful insects that holding still wasn't an option.

The butterfly pavilion is a seasonal exhibit put on by the Natural History Museum here is Los Angeles. It is easily one of the most interesting things I have ever seen. They are some truly magnificent bugs. It made me wish I was a better photographer.

Exposition Park Rose Garden

One of our many activities of the weekend. You should have seen the amazing brides having their pictures taken there. Lucy officially wants a pink dress for her wedding. Luckily she didn't seem overly impressed by the dapper 50's style beige tuxes with matching hats.

Why I Need Lasik Eye Surgery

Friday night. 8:30 pm. Driving home from Santa Margarita. About an hour drive. Traffic - not light.

After 9. Over halfway home. The girls are asleep. I really have to go to the bathroom. I need to hurry.

9:05. I glance to my right. Ah. My contact has moved below my eye ball. Shoot. That's ok. It's happened before. As long as I stay in this lane I will be fine. I can still see the lines.

9:10. Only about 20 minutes to home. Oh no. I have something in my other eye. Oh crap. Now I can barely see. Dang it. I really wanted to just get home. Good thing I am going slow in one of the right lanes.

9:12. Carefully I move off the freeway. I think that blurry thing I see is a car next to me. Lets hope I am right. Ow. It hurts. My eyes are watering like crazy. Stop the car now on the side of the road. Hazards on. Phew. Fix my contacts.

That was a close one.

Will It Ever End?

Just a few pictures from a park in Irvine this weekend.
We are still sick around here. It all started with the flu for me a few weeks ago. Then I had a cold which has now turned into bronchitis. My doctor thankfully found an antibiotic I could safely take so I have been coughing up mucus all day! Hooray for that. Yesterday Lucy woke up with the flu. Not only did I have unrelenting coughing going on and no sleep for over a week I spent the day cleaning up all kinds of yucky fluids from my baby girl. It was lovely. I swear I just can't seem to catch a break this pregnancy. If it isn't one thing its another.

We did manage to have a nice mother's day. Landon made me breakfast and picked me out a new book. The girls made me cards and gave numerous enthusiastic hugs and "Happy Mother's Day" greetings. Really, what more could a mother ask for? (Except maybe a little health.)

This is wedding summer around here. 2 of my cousins are getting married within the next few weeks. Followed my good friend Lisa at the end of June. I just can't wait to be a huge whale in all of those wedding photos! I guess I better get a few dresses for the occasions. But really? Who wants to spend money on clothes at this point knowing I will only wear them for a few more months?

And we still haven't lifted a finger to get ready for baby boy. Other than a few darling pieces of clothing I have purchased and received from excited grandmothers. We really need to get to work. We have to remove everything from Landon's office and start getting to work. 14 weeks left. We can probably do it.

Lastly I have to give a shout out to my sister-in-law Angella who is having a c-section tomorrow. Woohoo for a new little cousin and a best pal for my little guy. Good luck Angella, we love you and will be thinking of you all day!
